Getting to know your VELUX windows 🪟
We know how confusing getting the right replacement or the right new install for you. All the different codes and numbers may seem like gobbledygook but they all mean something, let’s go through it…
Firstly, let’s go through the different VELUX variant codes.
Variant Code | Operation | Interior Finish
GGL | Centre-Pivot | White Painted Pine
GPL | Top-Hung/Dual | White Painted Pine
GGU | Centre-Pivot | White Polyurethane/Maintenance Free
GPU | Top-Hung/Dual | White Polyurethane/Maintenance Free |
Understanding different operations
Centre-pivot means the window opens centrally and pivots in, below shows an image displaying this method of operation:
Top-Hung means the window
opens from the top hinge and pivots out to give you a full view, these windows can be used as fire escapes if they are above the minimum size requirements of 55 cm (W) x 118cm (H)
Understanding different interior finishes
VELUX have 3 standard interior finishes, white painted pine, white polyurethane/maintenance free & lacquered pine.
White painted pine
White Polyurethane / Maintenance Free
Finding the correct like-for-like replacement
The best way for you to tell the exact equivalent size to your existing window is by checking the code on the top of the sash. This might say for example “GGL 304 3059”.
GGL Indicates the variant of window, the 304 indicates the size of the window.
From looking at this page above, this shows that the current equivalent to a “GGL 304 3059” is now a “GGL MK04 2070”
The VELUX catalogue shows the equivalents to old window codes at the back page, which you can view here.
